Facilitating the Project Lifecycle: The Skills & Tools to Accelerate Progress for Project Managers, Facilitators, and Six Sigma Project Teams (Jossey Bass Business and Management Series) Review

This is a great book written by Jan Means and my good friend, Tammy Adams, and it lives up to its title. This book provides real world, practical information to establish, facilitate and model effective techniques for project teams. No, it's not a book about project management. It's about supporting project implementation through the use of "facilitated work sessions" - otherwise known as teamwork!Chock full of helpful session agendas, templates, tools and techniques (which are on a CD-ROM for subsequent use), Jan and Tammy catalogued and indexed over thirty years of their experience in an easy to use format. This is the newer and better version of the biblical "Team Handbook" for project managers, sponsors, facilitators and team members.

Although this book refers only to Australian festivals and events, it's loaded with management lessons, concepts and strategies that are universal. This is the best book I've been able to find on a subject that is scarcely written about (referring to large festivals). Thank you Johnny Allen, William O'Toole, Ian Mcdonnel and Robert Harris for sharing your knowledge.

The Complete Guide to Special Event Management Review

The Complete Guide to Special Event Management
Average Reviews:

I was actually looking for a book about the organising of events with small groups of clients, up to 10 and at most 20 people. This was not what I was looking for....However it instilled a lot of new ideas in my crainium that I was able to carry over into my daily line of work when organising presentations to clients and events with clients.
This book was definately written for the novice special event manager in mind. It deals mainly with the staging of large events such as concerts, olympics, and charity events. They introduce the main stages of special events, problems that can occur, risk involved in taking on a special event, making sure you do your demographics homework to estimate the success of the event, chosing the venue, using television and radio for publicity to increase visitation, making a profit, security before, during after the event, the finale, closing down the event.
Even if you are organising events for a small number of participants, I highly recommend reading this book.

The Project Meeting Facilitator: Facilitation Skills to Make the Most of Project Meetings Review

The Project Meeting Facilitator: Facilitation Skills to Make the Most of Project Meetings

At last - a facilitation skills book perfectly tuned to the unique needs of project teams! Most facilitation skills books and courses are geared to facilitation generalists or experts. This is the first book I have read that was written expressly for project managers. Full of practical and reusable tips and tools, the book addresses special challenges associated with every phase of a typical project: initiate, plan, execute, control and close. The writing is clear, straightforward, and engaging, and the layout makes it easy to find exactly what you need. I will be using many of the tips and techniques in an upcoming facilitation skills course I am running for project teams.
